“Chennai did not just become a place I lived in. It became the place that shaped who I am.
I am Lavanya Subramani an Entrepreneur and independent strategy consultant based in Chennai. My journey across media, branding, and entertainment spans over seventeen years, but it didn’t begin with a grand plan. It started unexpectedly around 2010, when I found myself deeply involved in real estate advertising, expos, and on-ground promotions. What began as a role soon became a classroom. From campaign ideation to client pitching and execution, I was unknowingly learning the fundamentals of media, branding, and audience psychology in real time.
After returning from my master’s in London, the guidance of my media mentor helped me see this space with clarity and purpose. That spark turned into passion.
A new chapter unfolded when I moved to Dubai, where I worked with Tamil radio, handling PR and branding. It was there that I truly understood the power of storytelling ,how voices travel, how emotions connect, and how communication can influence and inspire across borders.
But even before all of this found structure, there was a phase that defined my fearless side curating and executing my own events along ECR with a close circle of friends. Those experiences were raw, unfiltered, and deeply personal. No big teams, no safety nets just instinct, creativity, and the thrill of building something from scratch. That phase shaped my confidence to create, lead, and take risks.
Over the years, I have worked on securing sponsorships, partnerships, and investments across media, entertainment, and real estate always striving to bridge creativity with business strategy.
I had the opportunity to serve as Brand Manager for Silambarasan TR through Atman Artworks LLP, which further strengthened my understanding of celebrity branding and large-scale positioning. Today, I’ve come full circle returning to my creative roots by founding Subranoir Studios. Our first pilot film, OIZYS, currently in postproduction, marks a deeply personal and exciting new beginning.
While my professional journey evolved, it was my experiences in social responsibility that truly shaped me as a person.
My journey of giving back didn’t begin with COVID it started much earlier. From being actively involved during the 2015 Chennai floods to supporting the spirit of unity during the Jallikattu movement through my association with the Chennai Memes community, I witnessed firsthand the power of people coming together.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was involved in relief efforts both in Dubai and later during the second wave in Chennai I and friends Ran a covid center and saved many many lives ,These moments were intense, emotional, and life-altering. They taught me that beyond careers and achievements, what truly matters is humanity showing up for people when it matters the most. Those experiences reshaped my understanding of life, purpose, and connection.
My bond with Chennai, however, began long before my career.
I came here as a small-town girl, unsure of what the city had in store. Over time, I became what people lovingly call a Chennai ponnu, and eventually, a proud Chennai marumagal.
Some of my earliest memories are rooted in Triplicane, at my grandparents’ home, where nearly fifteen families lived under one roof. That environment taught me unity, resilience, and the beauty of shared lives.
The Marina beach became my sanctuary the sound of waves and the salty breeze still grounding me, no matter where life takes me.
Cinema, too, found me here. Watching films at Devi and Sathyam Cinemas with my grandfather felt magical. Years later, those same spaces became part of my personal story where love grew, memories were made, and life came full circle as I built my own family in this very city.
Chennai is a collection of firsts for me my first ice cream at Milky Way, my first visit to Spencer Plaza, my first local train journey each moment quietly weaving a lifelong bond.
Today, when I think of Chennai, I don’t just see a city.
I feel the beach breeze.
I remember the warmth of Triplicane.
I see the glow of cinema screens.
I carry the memories of love, struggle, growth, and purpose.
What once was a city I visited during holidays became the city that gave me my identity and continues to shape every chapter of my life.”
