“From switching schools to switching careers, and to now having successful businesses, I have seen it all. I started strong with being a professional tennis player being trained since I was 7 years old. For the first few years of my life, all I knew was tennis, training, sweating, skipping school for hours. I trained hard and represented our country at the u-18 rank globally after which came my first downfall.
At the age of 19, I ended up having health conditions because of which I had to stop training. I was heartbroken, lost and clueless about what I was going to do!
My sister then suggested that I apply for masters. For the first time, I attended classes in person. During those two years I was trying to catch up on all the lost time.
After that, I still missed tennis! So I started coaching for a few kids. While doing that , I discovered my passion for baking in my free time. I used to try random recipes and make them for my students.
My friend had requested me to make a batch of twenty dessert jars for an event and just like that, it was my first order and the foundation of “Sugar Monkeys”, my passion project of twelve years now. At the time of our first year anniversary, we even conducted “Sugar Monkeys Treasure Hunt”. I still do orders from my little baking studio at home.
But my story doesn’t stop there!
Alongside Sugar Monkeys, I co-founded Centre Court Events, an event management company. We’ve organized large-scale events like Covelong Surf Festival (with over 25,000 attendees) and The Great Madras Bake Sale, held every January to spotlight home bakers. This July, we’re also hosting “The Cake Buffet”, another exciting celebration!
All of this with a toddler and a newborn is not easy. I just lucked out on having the best parents and being married into an amazing family who have supported me throughout and let me play multiple roles than just a daughter, wife or a mother!
After all these crazy career shifts and countless decisions later, if there’s one thing I know, when you put your heart and soul into something and continue working towards it, nothing can really stop you!”
