“They told me I couldn’t do it. That I was too late to start something new. Those dreams, especially creative ones, had an expiration date. For a while, I believed them. I got married right after college, started a jewellery business with my husband, and stayed focused on entrepreneurship. It felt like the “right” path – stable, logical, expected.
But life has a funny way of revealing who you really are, often in the most unexpected moments.
One afternoon, I sat with my five-year-old, helping him paint. What began as a playful activity turned into something deeper. I dipped my brush in colour, almost accidentally, and something clicked. The strokes came naturally. For the first time in thirty years, I felt like I had found a part of me I didn’t know existed.
Encouraged by that spark, I enrolled in a one-year diploma course in painting. It was intense, but I absorbed every moment with excitement. I explored acrylics, abstracts, and traditional techniques. When I sold my very first painting for ₹25,000, I knew this wasn’t just a hobby – it was my calling.
I began showcasing my art in exhibitions across India. Slowly, my work started to gain recognition, even from international buyers. Building a client base was far from easy. But I stayed consistent – painting through doubt, learning through failure, and pushing through every “no” until I found my “yes.”
Today, I’ve created over 80 paintings and sold more than 40. Each one is a story, a piece of me, a reminder that it’s never too late to start again. What matters isn’t when you begin, but how deeply you believe in yourself when you do.
The greatest win in my journey wasn’t proving anyone wrong – it was proving myself right.”
