“My journey as a makeup artist has been a conscious process of unlearning the ways in which the world made me see myself and how that helped me accept myself the way I was.
That is how I work on my clients as well. I enhance their beauty but not change the way they look.
While everyone made fond memories at school, I had some of my worst nightmares there. Being a fat kid who was termed ugly, I was often at the receiving end of constant ridicule and humiliation. Body shaming started at home and continued throughout my school life.
Owing to this, I started to experiment with my looks and invested a lot of time in grooming myself. It was therapeutic to say the least and step by step, I worked on building my shattered self-esteem to become the confident woman I am today.
The world around me changed a little and the response was almost heartwarming. The more I experimented, the more comfortable I felt in my own skin and it was like redemption, the transformation from self-loathing to self-love.
During post graduation, I lost the opportunity on one of the most awaited exchange programmes in Europe. This pushed me to travel there anyway and after months of convincing my parents, I set out on what was to be a 45 day backpacking trip across Europe.
This trip put things in perspective for me and I knew that architecture was not my calling. So, I dove in head first into establishing myself as a makeup artist.
A series of courses and a master class later, I launched my brand and have been working relentlessly on different collaborations and brands ever since.
From a shy girl who was body shamed to a woman who is chasing her dreams and establishing herself, I have come a long way. The journey has just begun!”
