“I’m a Chennai boy, straight out of KK Nagar. School and I never got along—I wasn’t the brightest student, nor did I fit into the system. My journey through different schools—from CBSE to matriculation to a government school—wasn’t due to struggle, but rather a search for where I belonged. Through it all, one thing remained constant: music.
My mother was a stage singer, and our home was always filled with the sounds of old Tamil songs. My day started with the radio and ended with Sun Music. Music wasn’t just something I liked; it was a world I escaped into. I picked up the drums and keyboard at a young age, and before I knew it, I was the one playing at my school’s annual day—mostly because I was the only one who owned instruments! That’s when I realized I loved performing.
College pushed me deeper into this world. I joined a band, performed at culturals, and in my second year, we won a prestigious trophy, beating out bigger institutions. But the moment that changed my life? Watching DJ Zen perform. The way he controlled the energy of an entire crowd—it wasn’t just music, it was magic. That day, I knew DJing was my calling.
My first gig paid me just 100 bucks—barely enough for fuel. It was a small birthday party, and I had to figure out how to keep the energy alive. But that 100 turned into 5K in no time. Soon, it wasn’t just birthdays. It was for weddings. College fests. Bigger crowds. In 2016, after much convincing, I finally got my first professional console. That’s when things truly shifted.
One of my most unforgettable moments was performing outside LIC as part of a campaign. It wasn’t a club, it wasn’t a wedding—it was just the public, everyday people passing by. But the energy? Unmatched. That day, I truly felt like an artist. I knew then that I wanted to give people an escape, even if just for a few hours, through music.
Chennai may not be known as a DJ’s paradise, but I stand by this city. We have incredible artists who haven’t gotten their due, but we are here, and we are thriving.
To anyone out there dreaming of making music—take the leap. The doubts, the struggles, the rejections—they’re all part of the process. But if you truly love what you do, if you live for the music, keep going. The world will eventually listen. Believe in yourself. Feel the vibe. And most importantly—dance it all away.”
