“People make their preconceptions based on the first thing they see, but I believe that we are who we choose to be. Life, carrying around a body weight of 120Kgs wasn’t easy both physically and mentally. The Physical body uses up all the energy to carry the body weight and mentally ‘Obesity’ as a disease is highly stigmatized. People associate it with drinking and having bad food habits which is 90% of the time not true as there are so many factors that lead to obesity. But as a person who was suffering from it for the longest time, the way society objectified me as a social clown took a huge emotional toll on me!
In 2016 with the last shred of hope, I joined a gym. With the initial apprehension, I was clueless on what to do and even, the level to which I could exert myself. And suffice it to say, I had no money to get myself a personal trainer much to the irony of the popular quote – ‘When you have the will and the dedication and the resources, find their way to you.’ But lady luck favoured me in the time I started to show up consistently. I came across some amazing trainers who loved the idea of helping others enough to spend time with me and work with me. Seeing my honest effort, they were moved and they decided to help me just out of their kind nature. And there started my journey to fight my own obesity! It took me more than a year to achieve a satisfying result but nevertheless, it has got to be the most fulfilling journey of mine. Initially when I started working out I never imagined the day of achieving what I aced but I went in with the simple motive to become more healthier both physically and mentally! And weight loss became a by-product of the lifestyle I built!.
It almost took an entire lifetime to realise that it is never about how our body looks but rather other understanding what our bodies can accomplish and celebrating it for what it is! Fitness in recent times has become all about packing up muscles and achieving a beach body but what we fail to notice is that fitness is everything about building a healthy lifestyle and is and will always be a means for wellness. Love yourself, and maybe that might just be the best love story you will ever come across.”
