“My life journey to a language trainer started on a funny note but one that brought out immense grit and determination from me. Having completed my engineering, I joined as a software professional in a reputed MNC as a trainee. Being placed in a comfortable team, my first few months as a trainee was to learn the job from my teammates.
And here is where I noticed something very peculiar. Noone liked what they were doing but they were forcefully pulling through due to the lack of a choice. It was mind numbing to watch them grumble and get through from work day to another, grinding without a sense of fulfillment.
Suffice it to say, it went straight into my head and pushed me down an existential crisis on what I wanted to do with my life. Being born to a dad who was a chai shop owner, I have seen people look down upon and mock my dad as an illiterate. Even though my dad knew to speak our native as well as English language, he was considered him an illiterate and people had no qualms discussing it in front of him. And growing up, one of the hard made choices for me was to grow into a successful trainer and teach those grown ups kids to speak well in English.
I resigned within a year and I set out on a wild goose chase to find a company that would accept me as a trainer. I was rejected multiple times by multiple people and it was a hard way to get into a job but I did finally find a company that took me in. After months of scouting and applying and interviewing for roles, I began my work as a language trainer and became quite confident in my role.
Two years in, I resigned my role and set up my independent practice as a freelance trainer with different educational institutions across India. It would be ironic to note that my former company was one of the clients in the institute I worked at. When people ask me how I chose this field of work, I can just say that when my life seemed to be going nowhere, my instincts directed me to this and I followed it without a second thought. When the pandemic turned in, I started a youtube channel to teach English in a creative manner. The approach I used was to teach English using IPL as a leeway. The journey is definitely long and far, but this has brought out the fighter in me and I am ready to fight for whatever my heart desires.”
