I was introduced to dance at the age of 8 when my parents or grandparents didn’t have a clue about what it was. And I thank my school partly for this! Being a student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir meant that I had an ‘activity’ class every day. And here too, roller skating seemed like a fancy option but my mother forced me to reconsider since the former indicated that there might be quite a few injuries!
So I enrolled in Bharathanatyam classes with zero interest. But this perfectionist mindset of mine helped me a great deal and here too, I started to keenly observe my master’s every move. This would one day become my profession thanks to a school which reinforced this in our curriculum!
I started classes in private and blessed with the most supportive parents, the classes were amazing! Given my passion, I started performing at the age of 9 with zero stage fear. I also started to play small roles in my dance troupe and took great inspiration from my seniors. I did my salangai pooja in the year 2011 and I did my arangetram in 2015.
The days leading to the arangetram were the most memorable since I was in my 11th grade and soon after school, I would rush to my dance class and my mom would bring me food directly! After four months of strenuous practice, the day of my arangetram arrived and I did my arangetram on Jan 26, 2015, at Bhavans Rajaji Vidhyashram, Kilpauk.
Soon after my arangetram, I did several stage shows and performed at various cultural festivals like Mahashivaratri, Margazhi utsavam, etc. Two years back on mahashivratri, I performed at three different places like Chidambram, Mayavaram and Thiruvidaimarudhoor. I got an offer to perform in Malaysia. But due to some inconvenience, I was not able to perform. Some misunderstanding got in between myself and my teacher and I left my dance class.
Then after 8 months of struggle, I joined another institute and currently, am pursuing dance from Maya Shyam sunder. Pursuing a degree in Human resource management along with a dance class and internships sometimes test my endurance limit but I have learnt to adapt well over the years!
I hope to reach a place where I can infuse my love for pets into establishing a shelter house for animals at large! And set up my own dance institute where I offer this art to everyone without any barrier to money or other aspects!
