“My foray into business stemmed rather out of chance when I started making dolls as a return gift for my brother’s marriage. As soon as they went on display, the guests there were full of praises for the intricacy it encompassed and immediately started requesting for more.
Now for a girl coming from a family of working professionals, this whole idea of ‘entrepreneurship’ was rather unheard of. And, I was, in fact, on the path to pursue the UPSC examinations before the universe threw this beautiful accident my way. Besides this, the pandemic too became an important factor that triggered things into place. While the COVID waves were postponing my exams on one end, it ensured a lot more time on my hands that I was able to dedicate to making my figurines.
And today, in a span of one year, this hobby has definitely become my primary source of income. I get orders from all over India, and it’s a satisfying experience working on them everyday. What additionally helps is having a rock-olid family that guides me at every single step. As a complete novice to the field, I had little clues of taxes, procurement and the various other facets of the venture, earlier, but with the guidance of my dad and brothers, I’ve been able to quickly learn and grasp the fundamentals.
My mother, on the side, has become the silent backbone to all my efforts. Her journey, as a young homemaker who strived hard to fulfil her dreams alongside, is one of main factors that inspires me everyday to follow my heart, even if it’s totally out of my comfort zone. As a 24 year old, I haven’t planned much ahead but my wish is to, one day, employ women from underprivileged sections and provide them skill-based training, in this field, thus doing my bit to aid their independence. Till then, I’m happy expanding verticals and catering to the beautiful orders that come my way.”
