“Holi is a time when the air is rife with the festive spirit and everywhere you turn, people are having fun. In Chennai, it goes without saying that Sowcarpet will be a riot of colors and celebrations. On this day, everyone sheds their inhibitions and come together to celebrate the festival. All the differences that divide us like religion, caste, money and age don’t matter anymore and everything seems perfect as people focus on having fun.
My friends and I make it a point to visit this place every year, and this has been the practice for 15 years now. Shortly after our schooling, we drifted to different parts of the city due to the demand for our jobs but, this one day on any given year, you will find us together on the streets of Sowcarpet. It’s like, the years vanish and we are back to who we were as kids. To me, holi is more than just a celebration. It is something deeper that it lends a psychological view to life. Each of us is like a unique color. We are born under different circumstances and are shaped in different situations. But when we come together, we create a riot of beautiful hues; and that to me is what holi signifies. No matter what happens, we as a team will continue this tradition to all the years to come”
