“My parents separated early on in my life. My dad went on to have another family eventually. Growing up with a single mother, I was exposed to extreme poverty early on in life. I was even instructed that they would make me study till my high school after which I would be discontinued from my education.
However with the kind help of so many of my seniors, I was able to enroll for my graduation degree in Physics. For someone stepping into college for the first time, I came to know about the volunteering opportunities that students were encouraged to take part in. I got the opportunity to get into YRC but I did not get any great opportunities to serve the community.
This is when I came to know that we could volunteer outside of our own college by tying up with independent NGOs. I started to help with blood requests and it came as a pleasant surprise how a small help could go on to change the life of someone in a drastic manner. I would receive feedback from multiple people how my timely help saved them. I started to work independently with an NGO called Awakers and with time I got an opportunity to offer tuitions to children thereby helping me earn a living.
I’m currently pursuing my masters and volunteering with NGOs for blood requests and education requests. Making a difference in this world doesn’t really require a lot from us other than a willingness to give back. I never would have dreamt that I would one day take part in volunteering actively but had it not been for the amazing people who guided me now and then, I don’t think I would even be here today. So glad to know that I continue to play a small part here and I hope to inspire many more to get onto this.”
