“Ever since I was a kid, I sort of knew that art was the thing I wanted to be associated with. But growing up in a typical Indian household, we know that the fear of the unknown far outweighs the pay-offs. So I was put on the well beaten path that was trusted and well known.
As my life progressed through the years, I understood that my yearning and my passion for art kept progressing more and more each day. It was a well known fact that making a career out of art was going to be a strenuous task. That is when I decided to study architecture.
Architecture lured me in for it was both art for the design aspects and also, science for its engineering aspects. I took in the concepts with as much fascination and wonder as a child possessed with her new toy. As my final year neared, I started to intern at multiple places earning exposure as well as experience at different firms.
Finally, one of the places clicked and I am a full time designer at one of the prominent design firms in Chennai. And in my free time, I practice graphic design and illustrations and also work on customised work for different clients.
Masters is in my long term bucket list but for now, I think I would just like to say that “it pays to pursue” our heart’s desire. Most of us get carried away with the fear of the unknown when the most sought after well-known path is laid out in front of us. But those who do go after our dreams throwing caution to the wind, do make it in the end all the same.
After all, this is the one life we all get and there is no harm in working for what we want! There is no other joy that can equal that; sure it might be a little scary at first but when we believe in ourselves, there are no possible hurdles that can halt us.”
