“They say that true love can be felt even in the unlikeliest of situations. Mine came along when I was in a space of complete physical and emotional exhaustion. He was a colleague at my first-ever workplace. We got along almost instantly and I was stunned whenever people described him to be an introvert. Things started to slowly blossom and soon after, he proposed to me in the most cinematic way possible. It was a rehearsed setup where he went down on one knee while ‘All of me’ played in the background, alongside a couple of friends who were busy staging a drizzling backdrop in peak summer!
There are certain moments, which completely seal your love for the other person. Mine, unfortunately, was one of utter discomfort. During a travel journey, in an intractable scenario, I had unexpectedly defecated in my outfit. Upon realising it, I started tearing up with embarrassment and looked abashed even while telling him. To my utter surprise, however, there wasn’t an inch of disgust or ridicule on his face. When a man handles a vulnerable moment with such sensitivity, you know he’s a keeper! As kids, we imagine love to be all about surprises and romantic gestures, but trust me, the way rocky patches and such uneasy scenarios are handled really go a long way in defining a relationship!
Now, being raised in an immensely orthodox family, marriage was actually a ticket for me to chase my dreams. Today, whether it’s the choice to work in marketing or my ambition to direct a film eventually, my husband is my biggest supporter! We treat each other as equals and there are no stereotypical gender roles defined. What we do prioritise, although, is each other’s happiness! We are all about the little moments to make each other smile. These seven years with him have been the best, and I look forward to the next zillion!”
