“My life has been a series of impromptu decisions one after the other but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change any of it. It goes like this – I was 22 when I decided to move to another country with my then boyfriend, convinced that long distance won’t work out. It was an adventure of its own, being in a new country, university, dealing with work, loans etc. and 7 years later, the relationship that spurred all this, ended ironically on Valentine’s Day! Until then, every other curve ball life threw at me was nothing but a challenge for me but this seemed like the ultimate test and I felt into deep depression; the stress took a toll on my physical health and I was given the ultimatum by my the doctor- “you may only have a few days to live”. It was probably during this time that one impactful piece of advice from a friend altered my course of life. “Allow yourself to hit rock bottom and only then, will you will realize that there is no other way but up.” Of the many things that prompted me to move on, this did the trick and I made a split second decision to let go of the past. We often question our own strength to endure and trudge on, but let me assure you, your mind is the most powerful part of your body! Having decided to move on, I made another impromptu decision – to follow my heart. I quit my job and moved back to India. Following your heart will be the scariest thing you will do but if your circumstances permit it, you owe it to yourself to try. I have travelled to six continents, written a book and eventually landed up teaching calligraphy! No matter how risky it may seem initially, the journey will be worth your time and effort and even if you don’t make it big, you will live to tell the tale of how you took the plunge and enriched your life with that one big adventure.”
