“As a young girl who loved clothes and was known for buying a new pair every week, I never fathomed being swept by the idea of minimalism one day! I was a hoarder, known to carefully preserve things and grew up predominantly in abundance. But somewhere, amidst the obsession, I didn’t realize that habits could have an influence in one’s personality. In fact, slowly but steadily these seemingly ‘harmless’ behaviours had a big impact, adding to my clumsiness and indecisiveness by the day.
And I first came light to this truth only after getting married. Living with a man who was so well organized, I started fearing his possible reaction to this and started arranging things just to blend in, though it felt absolutely draining! Nevertheless, one day when he asked me for a pen, my true instinct came out and I handed him an entire bunch. To that he made a casual remark stating “If you loved a pen, you’d know which one to hand me”. Now the response was so unexpected that it got me onto a thinking loop, introspecting! Plus somewhere within that journey, I was fortunate to have stumbled upon the concept of minimalism which seemed to provide the answers to so many of my questions.
Naturally with my interest in the subject deepening by the day, I was ready to adapt it for a lifetime. Decluttering was the first step in the process that I even took to happily. And what a storm of change it brought in! I never realized that giving up on materials things could actually bring my headspace so much calm.
Now beginning there, with that small transformation was an entire journey towards pursuing simplicity in all forms- be it veganism, meditation or even adapting to ideas like homeschooling for my kids. A lifestyle with oneness to nature seemed more and more appealing especially alongside the whole plethora of research backing it up. In no time I had become a completely new person possessing more creative spirit than ever with a huge reduction in my former levels of anger and ego.
What felt better was people around me noticing this change and wanting to adapt it for themselves. It’s brought me to a position where I can share my learnings to try and guide people towards a better way of living. I truly believe the best way to multiply your happiness is by sharing it, and this my small step in that path towards positively impacting lives!”
