“The muse of my poems was this particular girl, on whose birthday, I wanted to give her something that would be different from anything anyone would give her, something that is not materialistic. So, I put my pen to paper and let the words flow. That’s when poetry happened.
All my friends were amazed and she was in awe and they encouraged me to read and write more often. As I was never an avid book reader, it took a lot of convincing to get into reading again. The first book I read was one of Chetan Bhagath. The immense appreciation that I received for my work, motivated me to start my own Instagram page solely for my poetry. I try being consistent in posting the poems.
I’m constantly on a lookout for inspiration, and when something interests me, I pen down the words on my phone and later brush it up with finesse. I am not much of a paper-pen kind of poet as my phone is always at my disposal as and when I need it. Based on a friends suggestion, I picked up a few books of Tamil poets. NA. Muthukumar captures a slice of life in words so colloquial that we can relate to them instantly.
I aspire to be a poet some day.
I have started taking baby steps in that direction and have ghostwritten a song under the guidance of a leading songwriter for a Tamil film. A song that I wrote for a Youtube channel called Let’s Make Engineering Simple, which they went on to use as narrative poetry.
I also write poems for my friends often, when asked. Most of them are for gifting to their loved ones. I have also written a lot of love poems on behalf of my friends which resulted being beneficial for them. That’s the irony my friends point out often to me. It is the fact that I have been single all my life but manage to write love poems that would melt any girl’s heart.
I wish to do this with the songs I write for films too. I want to be a lyricist someday and woo the whole Tamil speaking population with my words. But there’s still a long way to go and many experiences in life to gain before I get there. The support of my friends and family and the strength of my words would keep me company till the end of this journey.”
