“I was pursuing my MA in music when my brother had called my college to tell me about the DD announcer auditions. I went there with my friends, gave it a shot, and made it through. While working there, I had the opportunity to become a newsreader with Doordarshan Tamil. It was nice to see my neighbors, friends, relatives, and random strangers recognize and tell me that they saw me on television.

A few days into that, I got the opportunity to be part of a light music troupe, which I outrightly refused as I was more into classical music. But then, (late) Mr.Shahul Hameed sir came home and convinced my parents to send me for a show. I remember my first time on a concert stage for light music like it was yesterday. I was singing alongside the great TM Soundararajan, and my hands were shivering.

This was around the time when private channels were starting to come up, and I got the opportunity to do a show on elections along with Mr. T.V. Varadarajan. It was a huge success, and I got the chance to join Sun TV. Slowly opportunities to act in television and movies started pouring in. I took them as they came by, but never do I long for any role or follow up for offers. God has been kind to me and makes sure he sends only those opportunities whcih are good for me.

My mother was my music guru, and my father was a catalyst in making sure I practice sangeetham and veena every day. My husband now plays that role. He is my strength and my motivator, and I can say that he’s the reason behind me starting my Youtube channel, performing veena shows, and focusing more on my Veena and Carnatic music. We all need that one person in our life who has total faith in us and pushes us to be better. This Meera found her Krishna and, in him, her strength!”
