“I am the product of two incredible individuals, both of whom are doctors. Growing up in a household where medicine was revered, it was only natural for me to follow in their footsteps. However, I soon realized that despite my parents’ success in the field, my own journey would not be a cakewalk. I faced my fair share of struggles and challenges along the way, but I refused to let them deter me.
As the younger sibling with an elder brother ten years my senior, I was the pampered child in our home. My parents had embarked on their careers by opening a small clinic, and it was through their hard work and dedication that I found my inspiration. Yet, deep down, I harbored a burning passion for Bharatanatyam. There were moments when I contemplated pursuing it as a profession, as I held both medicine and dance in equal regard.
During my MBBS degree, I resolved to become a gynecologist one day. The prospect of specializing in this field fascinated me, and I eagerly anticipated the future. But life had other plans in store. During my postgraduate studies, I got married. It was earlier than I had anticipated, but I was blessed with a supportive husband and loving in-laws.
Soon after completing my degree, we relocated to my husband’s hometown, which was a far cry from the bustling city of Chennai. I found myself starting anew, building everything from scratch. Just as I began settling into this new phase of my life, I became pregnant. After a couple of years, when we decided to startoff my career seriously by launching our hospital in Chennai, a cloud of sorrow descended upon us. Meanwhile, I was pregnant with my second kid. My beloved aunt passed away, leaving a profound impact on my mental health.
The birth of my second child further complicated matters. It was after this time that I realized I was battling postpartum depression. Everything appeared bleak, and I found myself lost in the shadows. Recognizing the importance of seeking help, I began therapy, spending months working on healing myself and finding the strength to reclaim my life.
With renewed courage and determination, I slowly rebuilt my life. I recommitted myself to my career as a gynecologist. Life may throw countless pitfalls our way, but I firmly believe that it is in our power to rise each time we fall. No matter what obstacles we encounter, as long as we know what is best for ourselves, no one’s suggestions or opinions can deter us from achieving our dreams.
Today, I stand tall as a gynecologist, a passionate advocate for women’s health. My journey has taught me the importance of resilience, the value of seeking support, and the beauty of pursuing one’s true calling.
In the depths of my journey, I have come to realize that it’s never too late to catch up to our dreams. I yearn to contribute more to healthcare, to make a difference in the lives of countless individuals. And yet, my passion for dance still burns brightly within me. With my newly started company, I believe I can merge my love for dance with my commitment to healthcare. As a woman, I have learned the power of multitasking and that there is always a way to navigate through life’s struggles.”
