“My very first tryst with dance happened like this – My neighborhood aunty used to take dance classes and every day, I used to stand at her doorway utterly fascinated with the art form. It didn’t take long for my mother to figure out that I wanted this and I started training in this beautiful art form called Bharatanatyam. By the time I completed by schooling, I became professionally qualified in both Bharathanatyam and Carnatic music.
Life to me, has always blessed me with abundance. I never wished for more, rather, whatever we had, always felt enough and content to me. We were not a well to do family so, I used to take tuitions and classes for kids in order to support the family. Life moved on, and I left to the US to pursue my masters from the Arizona State University.
It was probably the distance that took a toll on my mother or her health, we lost her to a health issue without any warning. It was so sudden and complete that, my world stopped spinning! By this time, I had already been placed in a company so I left shortly after, glad for something to hold on to. I worked my way up and dove heads first into research, looking for that lost meaning but to no avail.
And just like how it happens, I had an epiphany, I resigned my luxurious corporate career and moved back to India to spend few years with my dad. Many condemned this move but to me, I had nothing to lose. One of the most precious thing in this life is time and if I had learnt anything from losing my mom, it is that, I shouldn’t waste any more time chasing money but rather spend it productively with people who matter.
In the midst of the curfew, it is disheartening to see people complaining and sharing memes about being at home but I would urge them all to take a lesson from me. There is no better time than now to spend it effectively with family, so kindly make the most of it. You will be better for it, am sure.”
