“My fascination with board games started a bit late in my life. I was exploring some engaging alternatives to the trite and worn family activities available around us, and we fell into this wonderful world. This led to a series of events which brought me here, to co-found a café in the hub of Chennai.
As part of a family that was into supply chain operations, I joined my father shortly after graduation. I married my college sweetheart and we spent most of our early years together travelling extensively to various parts of India. It was in this period that I became very engrossed in wildlife photography, and dedicated a lot of my time and effort towards pursuing that. As the business grew and expanded, we made the decision to move to Chennai.
This growth also brought with it increasing demands, and I resolved to establish a balance between my professional and family life. In the interest of spending more quality time together as a family, we sought to try several new activities that might engage all of us. It was at this point that we discovered contemporary board games and got a peek into this vast universe, beyond good old favourites like Monopoly and Othello.
Every day, we would take time to sit together as a family and play a game just for the fun of it. It goes without saying that this connection with the analog world, far removed from gadgets, was refreshing and exciting. The kids too started to look forward to this time and we would often read up about games and order them to try out. As the fascination grew, I became involved with some others who were organizing board game tournaments. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow board, game enthusiasts.
Here, I met my friends and partners, Shravan and Varun, and we got to talking about the board game scene in India. One thing led to another and we were soon laying down plans for building our very own café. We united over our shared passion for bringing board game culture to our city, and we have had a good run over the past two years.
Spending quality time with family was becoming a thing of the past but we are here to change that.”
