“CAGED – is my first (short) film released in Disney+Hotstar last year and removed due to political censoring. Caged was about the Srilanka refugees.
The word BELONGING fascinated me and drove me towards discovering wisdom in life. As a living being, every creature desire to belong to something, that’s the core emotion which gives them a belief that they’re in a good space. So while writing characters, and scenes for my film, I want my character to belong to my story as a writer and to my audiences.
I believe that when in search of belonging, every soul reaches its destiny.
While working on my first project, I noticed that filmmaking helps an unseen realistic fiction story be seen. Luckily, I experience filmmaking as a Therapy Session. Filmmaking heals & gives you the real feel.
Filmmaking was my belonging and to earn that I started from the ground by studying a media course at Anna University and simultaneously worked as an assistant director for various TV channels, ADs, music videos and a few mainstream films in Tamil and Telugu.
At one point, I felt the work was monotonous and also sensed that we lacked truth in every story that’s been published or watched. Learning filmmaking gives us an overall view, but when we get down on the ground to experience it, that’s where the real filmmaking class starts.
And so, I decided to be honest with my concepts and that was the result of my first movie, which made me think about my second project, PRIDE.
Pride is what made me ponder over – ‘Why not Adam & Adam instead of Adam & Eve!’
But the idea of Adam & Adam didn’t go well with our heteronormative mainstream platform. Concerning the release of the movie, I took it as a task to find a platform. As a team, we planned to release the film in the form of a QR scanner. If you want to watch the film, you’ll have to scan the QR code. Luckily in a few days, Homegrown India showed interest and released it on their social platform.
Pride insisted on keeping our minds wide and accepting reality, without affecting one’s living. As simple as it is to live and let live. I wish to break the stereotype and I’m working on it via all my films, which I believe is the purest art form in which we can never be false.
I’m currently working in Film Companion as a Creative Producer and an Independent Film Maker, striving hard to create space for such impactful stories in the mainstream.”
