“I am a victim of polio attack so I have spent all my living years with all my limbs rendered immobile except my left hand. And being a polio attack survivor, I couldn’t go to school as well. I would watch with yearning as my siblings and neighbours went to school; I haven’t set foot inside any school till this date.
My neighbour used to train me in basic alphabets and with the help of that, I started writing broken poetry. As I wasn’t completely well versed in the grammar and language, I wrote whatever I knew and with time, I slowly started singing those lyrics with a tune of my own.
This went on for a while and I eventually started doing it regularly and my songs would get circulated around in whatsapp groups. And that is when this one time, one of my songs was heard by a FVF whatsapp group member who forwarded it to a big league music director in Kerala.
We were shortly called in for a recording and the song I composed was tried by the nightingale of south India Chitra ma as a surprise to me, arranged by the organisation. The recording is not yet complete but mam has told me that she will visit me again!
One another original song of mine was released in the village’s temple festival Chettikulangara kumba bharani. Since it was a devotional song, close to 1000 cassettes got sold and we made a lump sum from that event. The dream is to earn and support my mother with my earnings.
With whatever knowledge I managed to gather over the years, I have written and composed so many songs and original music. I know that there are so many similar stories around the world and my honest wish that all of them come out of their shell to explore their unknown potential. There is room for all of us to grow and when we decide to rise, the world will witness magic like never before.”
