“I think the lockdown came out of the blue! The pandemic struck without warning and we were all pushed into a corner lost for what would happen in the coming months. Same was the case with me, as I was still in my high school and I had no idea on whether the exams would happen or the classes would continue etc.
And it was around this time that my granddad fell extremely sick. It was a hard time for all of us in the family and with my cousins, we tried to entertain ourselves by making ourselves useful in the family. With a lot of time in hand, and watching our grandfather go through so much within a short period of time, put us into an introspective mode.
We started to invest a good chunk of our time in developing healthy habits like eating clean, working out etc. It was almost like a no brainer that we would find ourselves here, a few months later commencing our own venture. Named after the first letters of all three of us sisters, BrUUKies is a brand that makes and sells desserts that are healthy, affordable and also, made with completely organic ingredients.
Since the kitchen was mostly occupied in the mornings, we started our experiments once everyone had retired for the night. Our main goal was to make sure that we stood for what we believed in – eating clean and healthy while also having something that was delicious. These attributes need not be mutually exclusive all the time and that is all we wanted to convey through our brand.
And the packing for our products are done through zero-waste products so we ensure that we reduce our carbon footprint as well. A year ago, I wouldn’t have imagined that I would go ahead to start a business venture while I was still in my school but here we are.
We are all good to something; it can be anything, anything at all! We all have our unique talents and it is our responsibility to tap into that and give it our everything. Things will eventually fall into place and success is bound to follow. It takes a lot of courage to swim against the tide and choose to do something unconventional but the perks of doing so far outweighs the hurdles.”
