“It is true what they say – often, women lose their identify after marriage. We leave aside our old lives and come to a new household, making a home, a family and a life. And then, a sudden wave of sadness hits you with a “What happened to the old me?”.
Until the lockdown, I was one of those people who envied women ‘who had it all’ wondering, if I ever had it in me to even attempt something out of the box I had made for myself. But life seemingly had different plans for me!
As a tai chi practitioner, I am a strong advocate of the wonderful benefits of this art form. During a close chat with a friend of mine, I became privy to all the issues she faced in her personal life. This lockdown had brought us all close to one another than ever and hearing this from her, propelled me to help her in a way I could.
I consulted with my academy to see if we could get her to enrol for tai chi classes but her work hours didn’t allow for it. We were in a fix until my tai chi master casually suggested that I take classes for her. Being a newbie in this form, I was reluctant but he urged me to give it a try.
The sessions started and the response I received was overwhelming. My friend came back to me saying how these sessions helped her greatly through her stress and brought in a sense of calm and peace.
Hearing this, reassured my faith in myself! With the blessings and the faith of my tai chi master, I sent a word around, of these classes and soon, people started enrolling after a few trial sessions. The latest member in my class is a 6-year-old kid who apparently seems to love this art form.
A simple act of generosity and kindness can turn someone’s life around and I stand as a living testimony to that. This lockdown has helped me discover myself as an individual and I am grateful for this art form called tai chi and the person, who helped me bring it to the world.”
