“Anyone who’s been through the beats of motherhood can tell you how protective mothers are about their young ones. Specifically, at the outbreak of a pandemic, one can’t help but do everything in their power to stop this deadly virus from entering into their household.
Nevertheless, if there’s anything that 2020 has taught us, it’s that the Coronavirus has its own ways of sneaking into even perfectly sanitized homes. And that’s exactly what happened in my case as well, one day before my vaccination schedule! It was a complete shocker especially since my entire family was known for immaculately following all the protocols, right from the start.
Now, though I kept hearing about the cases in the media, its severity struck me only upon contracting it. I was the only one amidst a family of 5, with my twin daughters and aged parents, who showed symptoms and that was more troubling since both of those age groups were equally vulnerable.
Of course, the next step was isolation, wherein I had to stay away from my precious 5 yr olds and couldn’t touch them for fourteen days straight. And as a parent, it was heartbreaking! Besides this, the overthinking that accompanied the panic got me to unknowingly contemplate all the worst case scenarios and the ways to tackle them. With my husband being a medical practitioner himself, I did clearly know the panic and the virus go hand in hand and it was, in fact, a ‘catch 22’ situation, but couldn’t help myself even then.
Regardless, what got me through was the maturity that my girls displayed for their age. They thoroughly understood what COVID19 meant and opted to aid their mother’s speedy recovery by just being helpful. And for the entire duration of those two weeks, they were very well behaved and even took care of every little detail upon instruction. What was better additionally was having them as my constant cheerleaders throughout the process with their innocence and skills. In the end, they added the magical touch to the recovery that no medicine could have, just with their presence! At the end of two weeks, I came out a healthy, happier person filled with good vibes amongst two happy babies who ran into my arms.
Their hugs made the wait, which seemed like an eternity absolutely worth it!”
