“I grew up in Australia and moved back to India in my second grade. So eventually when we had to relocate to Chennai, I found it so hard to fit in. I didn’t know the language as well as the culture. Everything seemed alien to me and I was having a hard time to fit in. So all this eventually led me to being an introvert. And the school I was enrolled in then did not help things. I was bullied a lot for my slang and my introvertedness.
And this is when I found a solace in skating. I trained after school hours and eventually won the state level championship in this. This helped in finding my footing and make an identity for myself. I was switched to another school which so happened to propel me further towards other interests like Olympiad and Spell Bee contest. I aced all the levels of spell bee upto international championships.
But the lockdown came in and we were all stuck with online classes. As someone who was always stuck with a sense of curiosity to discover more about the world, I formed a group called the Researchers group. All we did was discover new interesting stuff to discuss and share it with each other. It was like a geek’s paradise to have a space where I could discuss and share and also learn more from each and every person.
My school was also proactively helping us take part in community initiatives like lake cleaning etc. We did some fun projects with Environment Foundation Of India. Right now, my researchers group has three different divisions catering to different requirements like lesson plans and coaching etc. With the help of a few mentors, I also authored a book on the struggles of a young teen from his childhood to late teen years.
I believe that all of us are here to complete a set of responsibilities in this. So it would be that much more wonderful if we all actively took part in doing our bit for the environment and the world.”
