“It was in the Second grade that I was diagnosed with dyslexia. Because of my learning disability or LD, as it is commonly known I was more creatively inclined. My imagination had no limits and this later transcended into a love for art and its various forms. My schooling, however, had its struggles, and I often felt discouraged and defeated. I came across many ZEROs, and sometimes, my Math teacher drew in eyes and a smile to ensure I was neither discouraged nor demotivated.
My love for the Arts led me to pursue the 4-year Visual Arts program at Stella Maris College, Chennai. I chose design as my core speciality during the second year and interestingly ‘Paper’ was a course subject. Fascinating, isn’t it?
Over the years, I was enveloped by my passion for design and art. It was at this stage that I had the opportunity to do an internship at a well-reputed Design studio in Cochin.
Here, I met a wonderful person who opened up a new world of possibilities.
She exposed me to design as I had never known before.
Colour, Paper & Typography. – The whole process was new and exciting for the young, budding designer in me; this was the best possible experience by far that I could have asked for.
I soon found myself exploring varied design languages and creating an identity that was unique and very representative of the person I was. This also made me more observant of art in different forms. After the internship, 8 months after graduating, I started my own design business.
The evolution of my studio – The Personalizing Studio, (Concept to paper and everything in between) is a paper-centric design studio in Chennai.
The Studio takes on Branding & Identity projects, Product and packaging design, and creates Personalized Stationery.
Through hard work, persistence, and a relentless pursuit of my dreams, I formed an incredible team upon which my business took off.
I do hope through my small yet ongoing journey, that somewhere I will be resourceful in helping others with learning disabilities to never give up on their dreams and to always believe in themselves and believe that on a bad day, a better one awaits just over the horizon.
Many stories are a testament to the power of perseverance and determination, and one of them is mine. Regardless of obstacles, I believe that anything is possible by consistently believing in hard work and a positive attitude.”
