“The idea of marriage is often glorified so much, that sometimes people fail to look beneath the surface.
Moreover, the rose-tinted lens surrounding the topic often subdue many from opening up about the intense changes that come with it.
I got married in my mid-twenties, post which I shifted cities to move in with my husband. I happily quit my job without a second thought, though it felt like venturing into a completely unknown universe. With no clue of the language, culture or people, it did also mean having to develop everything from scratch, but I was excited for it!
Sadly, however that didn’t last long. My husband worked in IT and my life totally revolved around taking care of him. I loved it of course but somewhere, completely forgot about myself. My days would be rather lonely and I resorted to food for my daily doses of joy. Due to this my weight increased massively, which too, silently added to the chaos within. Things worsened one day, when I experienced a burst-like pain. I rushed to my doctor, who diagnosed me as depressed and immediately put under medication. But despite the evidence, I couldn’t accept that something was wrong with my mental health and therefore stopped following my prescription. Eventually that reluctance spiralled further into bigger complications like Thyroid and PCOD, before I was even Thirty. Nevertheless, while all this was happening, to the outside world, I was normal and happy.
At last, when I decided to move past the stigma and consult a psychologist properly, I started noticing a world of a difference. Gradually, I also resorted to fixing my basics through clean eating and exercising. These alterations, apart from fixing my health, also sparked my interest towards organic farming. I started educating myself about sustainability, homegrown foods etc. And now, after understanding the significance of it, all my grandmother’s age old practices make so much sense!
Currently, I work towards spreading the knowledge and while focusing on holistic well-being. My experiences and the relentless support of my husband has fortunately put me in a better state of mind while making me realize that addressing the root cause is the right way to go about solving any problem!”
