“People often look at me with amazement when I tell them that these bubbles are what helped me raise an entire family. I’ve been selling them for the past 42 years and looking back, it has been nothing short of a rollercoaster journey.

These tiny air pockets bring so much happiness to the onlookers regardless of their age. I’ve had fully grown men- fathers and otherwise, getting extremely curious about the material and how the bubble retains its shape without bursting. They usually come in stiff, with a filter since products like these are looked down on as childish but within 5 minutes, there’s usually a complete flip in their demeanor. It’s almost like the bubbles have unleashed the child within them.

Now as far as kids are concerned, it’s a no-brainer on the amount of fun they have. Their focus, although is more on breaking the enamel and seeing it pop, rather than enjoying the synthetic bubble as a fully-inflated sphere. And looking back, the infinite bouts of glee, these toys have brought to people’s faces has what made me a satisfied man! It’s a reminder, in fact, that the most precious things in life are often the simplest.

Nowadays, after thirty fleeting years in Hyderabad and Delhi, I’ve shifted my focus to Chennai, in its popular ‘Mint street’ where there’s a constant bustle regardless of the time of the week. What’s better is that I get to unleash my acting skills, and play along with the onlookers, by adapting Superstar Rajnikanth’s signature moves. I’m a huge fan and it’s become my style to flip the air straw, like a cigarette, in an attempt to entertain the audience as well during a sale.

And as for my family, I’ve been able to provide my son and daughter with a good education and even gotten them married well. In these last days, I feel young as ever, after each fulfilling day of work and returning back to my wife. That’s what life is all finally about, right? The joy in the little things?”
