“I was an inquisitive child who was raised in the small town of Erode. My curiousness was often misunderstood by teachers who mostly thought I was suffering from ADHD and suggested that I look out for other schools. Things peaked when I was chucked out right before the twelfth grade for failing a test. Even though I was embarrassed, that incident gave me the zeal to prove my teachers wrong. The very next year I went on to become a stellar achiever at my new school.
Life threw in its next surprise when I got an opportunity to pursue my dream course abroad, on a full scholarship! I was thrilled but also knew how big a challenge it was, considering that I had to function completely on my own. However, I wanted to make my parents proud and therefore channelled my energy completely towards honing my skills. At the same time, I was incredibly lucky enough to find a bunch of like-minded people, who constantly pushed me to excel in college.
With the support system like that in place, came my life’s next surreal moment. I remember applying hesitantly, to one of the student-programs at Microsoft as I was convinced that I wouldn’t possibly get through. My friends nevertheless, were encouraging and helped me prepare day and night for the interviews. Eventually, I did clear the rounds. It felt surreal!
Failure is often looked down upon by many, but little do they realise that failure can sometimes become the biggest source of motivation. When I look back, it was the same inquisitiveness and love for learning that steered me to achieve. The biggest surprise although, was when the school that deemed me unfit, called me to lead a career guidance workshop. It felt like life had come a full circle. I can’t wait to see what it has in store from here on. Hopefully, they’re challenges that will keep me on my toes!”
