“My husband ran away within a few years of marriage. I was blessed with two kids and had to find work to feed their mouths. I started working as a construction worker with a small contractor. It was hardly anything but with time, I slowly progressed within the ranks of this job. But the heavy lifting of bricks and cement and the hard toil under the sun took a toll on my health. I had to find other means such as being a house help, babysitting etc. My son and daughter are married now and I have joined as a sweeper here at the Koyembedu Market. A friend of mine referred me to this place and it’s been a good two months here. There isn’t much micro-managing like with the other jobs and I am able to sustain myself through this. Some days I remember the childhood I lost and the hard marriage and they move me to tears. But I have to look upon it with pride for god knows the battles I fought and valiantly emerged from every last one of them. Work is worship anyday. We have to learn to do the hard work and make a contribution to the world we live everyday.”
