“I studied Visual Communication at Loyola College, eager to make my mark in the media industry. Starting as a trainee at Puthiya Thalaimurai and later moving to News 18, I found my passion for reporting at Raj TV. But life took a turn when I married a sailor, whose job kept him away for half the year. To be with him, I had to leave my career behind.
At home, I found myself restless. Blessed with a baby boy, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. When he turned 1.5 years old, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. The idea of a food business intrigued me, initially thinking of franchising but eventually opting to start my own food truck. Thus, Dessert Factory was born, where we served homemade delights like ice cream, brownies, puddings, and kulfi.
Starting wasn’t easy. I invested my savings and even sold my jewelry to fund the venture. Initially, it was just me and my friends baking and running the show. Despite the challenges of managing a business while being a new mother and having a husband away, I persisted. The following year, in 2024, we opened our second store, marking a milestone in our growth.
Now, with my son at 2.5 years old, balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship is still a challenge, but my stores are thriving. I’ve hired a dedicated team to help manage operations, allowing me to focus on expanding and improving our offerings.
Being a woman in business has its risks, but each challenge has taught me valuable lessons about timing, strategy, and resilience. Today, before even turning 30, I proudly oversee two Dessert Factory stores in Chennai and a hotel named ‘Fisherman Delight’.”
