“To me, life is what we chisel ourselves into society – not decided by fate or luck. Our thoughts and deeds determine our moments in life – that we cherish and regret.
Parenting is about raising kids the right way. My son, along with his friends, had accidentally broken a glass board in class. The principal summoned all the parents the next day, and my son’s friends were visibly in pain from the punishments they received. I, on the other hand, told my son that it is not the behavior I expect of him and advise him to be careful in the future.
When my turn to meet the principal came, I told her that as kids, we too had erred at times. My son had learned not to break the rules the hard way and will not repeat for life. The principal saw a point in my words and advised my son to follow my advice that will help him through his life. Until now, my son sees me as his best friend and shares everything with me, sans any fear.
Trusting oneself and people whom we interact with proves right. Starting my career as a Stenographer in the IGs office, I went on to switch jobs before I landed a position in a Bank. Working my way up, I landed in a role where I was responsible for research and development. I worked for several months to come up with the comprehensive loan form that SBI uses to this day.
I later grew in ranks and was in charge of student loans. That’s when I had the opportunity to meet and interact with students and parents who are in touch with me even after several years now. They track me down to inform of their graduation, invite me to their weddings, and so on. I make it a point to attend these weddings without fail.
However, there were stories of people who were trying to scam the bank into getting loans too, but there’s always that side to any story, and I believe in focusing on the good but never forget the clever cheats who failed to hoodwink my bank.
When attitude takes over, life is wonderful to look back. For instance, when my courtship culminated in marriage with blessings from both sides, we agreed that will be without a silk saree for the wedding. No dowry and the thirumangalyam was donated by Mahaperiyava himself from the Kanchipuram Mutt. To sum up, that’s what I believe in, do good, and you’d be on the receiving end of all the goodness in life.”
