“I grew up with the notion that there’s always a pill to pop for any problem in my body. Allopathy seemed to be the way of the world and I was accustomed to that lifestyle especially after witnessing my own father taking multiple tablets every single day. Of course, all of us in India constantly keep hearing about how our traditional practices aid in maintaining good health but somewhere in between numerous food commercials and, of course, the fascination for a western lifestyle, most of it does fade away!
And I woke up to these truths only after a ton of personal struggles. One, was where I was happily married to my lover of many years but couldn’t conceive despite getting the best medical treatments possible. My IUI attempt had failed, I had put on a ton of weight due to the medications involved and worse, was bombarded by the opinions of so many around me, who were quick to shame both my body and fertility. Now, even when I did conceive naturally a little later, it also, unfortunately ended in a miscarriage, thereby taking a bigger toll on my mental health subsequently.
But the breaking point was when a relative who was in his early thirties, known to be extremely fit, passed away suddenly due to a cardiac arrest. I couldn’t wrap my head around how it was even possible until doctors pointed out his junk eating and unhealthy lifestyle as the primary causes for his demise. It was indeed a loud wake-up call- one that got me to backtrack every small habit I was following till then, only to finally realize that half of it was wrong! Food does have the power to heal but only when consumed nutritiously in the right way, quantity and time!
So starting there, I began working towards educating myself on holistic nutrition and even went on to acquire a couple of certifications in the field. What’s better was getting pregnant naturally within a few months of implementing these changes to my routine and today being the mother of a healthy baby boy! Life definitely feels different from the way it was a few years ago and at this stage, all I want is to spread the knowledge to other women who are going through a tough time, conceiving. In the end, nothing would make me more happy than to see the joy in a lady who’s about to bring a life into this world!”
