“Choosing the journey of becoming a doctor was not entirely my choice. My father, a respected general physician, had dreams of me following in his footsteps. Initially, I wasn’t thrilled about doing medicine, but as fate would have it, my perception changed during my internship. The noble purpose of the medical profession began to resonate with me.
Despite my father’s wish for me to become a general physician, I had a burning desire to carve my own niche in the vast field of medicine. I chose to specialize in dermatology, a decision met with some resistance from my father. I yearned to stand out, to make a unique name for myself in the world of medicine.
I joined the same college for my Masters degree in dermatology. I got engaged in my first year, married in the second, and pregnant in the third, my journey became a juggling act. Handling a newborn while completing the final semester of my dermatology course was a big challenge. Yet, with the support from my family, I not only managed but excelled, earning a gold medal.
My quest for uniqueness didn’t stop there. I pursued cosmetology as a one-year course while simultaneously working as a consultant in multiple hospitals. The dream of having my own clinic was born during my fellowship. Against the tide of doubt, my husband played a significant role in realizing this dream, setting up Armoraa in 2019.
At the beginning of 2020, there was an unforeseen challenge – the pandemic-induced lockdown. Undeterred, we adapted swiftly. Online consultations and in-person clinic visits continued, thanks to my dedicated team. Even during the trying times of the lockdown, we persisted, opening another branch after a couple of years.
During the second wave of the pandemic – I was pregnant again. Emotionally exhausted, there were times when I wondered if this stress was worth it all. But yes, it is! Working until the last days of both pregnancies, and during the pandemic, expressed the strength in me.
Being from a family of doctors, my husband’s duty calls were frequent during the pandemic, an unavoidable aspect of our lives. Together, we emerge stronger.
Not confining myself to clinical practice, I took on the role of Chief Formulator at Keth Laboratories. My passion for research found expression, and I aspire to continue contributing to research in the future.
The journey wasn’t about proving anything to others; it was about setting an example for my children. As a doctor, researcher, entrepreneur, and most importantly, a mother, I show my children that dedication and effort make anything possible. Remember, your identity is built on the choices you make
My profession is not just a career; it’s my identity, which I love owning!”
