“Father figures don’t always have to be men and my mother is a living testimony to that. She’s my mom and dad, all in one- the strongest woman I know. Raising two boys as a single parent after having your husband walk away isn’t an easy feat but this lady has done a magnificent job. Never have I ever felt like I missed out on anything!
Even when she had lost her job for a brief while, she ensured to keep up joyous rituals like taking me to the movies every week. In fact, my foray into media happened only because of her. She borrowed money to make me participate in a talent hunt despite being advised not to. Her faith in my talent and her loudest cheers helped me unlock all my potential and although I couldn’t win, that contest changed my life completely by giving me the opportunity to become a child VJ.
Now that I’ve grown up, I can’t even fathom how she managed it all so beautifully- running a household, killing it at a corporate job, as well as raising children, without feeling exhausted or giving up on life. Not to mention, she hasn’t ever expressed any remorse about the past to me, as she wanted me to have a stress-free childhood. I guess it was her incredible friends circle that helped her propel through difficult times. She often reminds me of them and tells me to leave a positive impact on every person I meet. Even now, during the pandemic, she immediately stepped up and offered financial help for a friend going through a crisis, stating that that person helped her get past some extremely dark days. No wonder I get awestruck witnessing such selflessness and gratitude!
All in all, this woman has been my rock and my only aim now is to strive hard to venture into Kollywood and enable her to settle down peacefully. She deserves all the little joys she missed out on, in these 20 years and I intend to give them to her!”
