“My husband left me and my three kids about 7 years ago. Being a banker who was in charge of loan disbursement, I found it extremely difficult to cope with a demanding job while also taking care of a house with kids. So this was when my brother suggested that I take up an independent business where I could work on my own terms while also look after the kids. So I learnt to drive an auto and it’s been three years of doing this job. I have earned quite a reputation with my clients so their is a steady inflow of work and money. I am much more financially equipped now than with a full time bank job. I am also able to go meet the kids in between work rides. In a patriarchal society it is very difficult to prove your capability because, your gender always comes when you have to be assessed for your ability to do a task. But in my honest opinion, women don’t need to prove anything to anybody. Because of our conditioning we are often left to doubt ourselves but we can shine and skyrocket if only we let go of the fear that is holding us back. My story is not the first of its kind; there are millions of women out there who faced the same fate as mine yet, we all found the courage to move forward and prove ourselves. Anytime I feel dejected and pushed down by the society, the only thing that keeps me going forward is my kids faces. One look at them and I know, I have to buck up and push forward. My only wish for women is to know their worth and never settle for anything lesser than what they deserve. The world is your oyster if only you believe in it yourself.”
