“Growing up I was of the opinion that concepts like postpartum depression and mental health were exclusively for the rich. In fact, at one point, I even felt that middle-class or lower-income people shouldn’t even get such thoughts, for they have far too many problems already to focus on.
And as a 24-year-old mother, who was just a few years into her career, I, unfortunately, had no mature adult to guide me through all this that I was experiencing. So every little change right from a rising waist size of XXL got to me! What added further to the misery were the financial pressures that I was under.
Plus at that point, with maternity leaves being only provided for three months, I had to immediately get back to work in order to keep the family afloat. It was incredibly difficult both physically and mentally since I wasn’t back to my full potential at all! And that naturally reflected in my workspace too, where I’d just stare at my computer monitor for hours together without the usual josh of acing my tasks.
Now, noticing this I had a varying set of colleagues asking me to quit my position and settle down. Except for one supportive manager, everyone felt that the next natural step for mewas to only take care of my child full-time. But thanks to the encouraging words of that one person, I began looking at my state from a completely different perspective, only to notice a big void in women’s healthcare as a whole.
Be it stages like puberty and pregnancy or budding disorders like PCOD, our society has very little clue on the impact all this can have on a person. In fact, even married men sometimes don’t understand the effect of chemical-driven treatments like IVF and often just normalize the pain as something many other ladies also go through.
So channeling all the rage and drive to create a positive change in this space, I went ahead and created ‘Mind and mom, a pregnancy wellness app, to aid women through the beautiful yet crucial phase of their lives! Of course, this was after a lot of trial and self-evolvement post the birth of my daughter. You see, starting up as a 29-year-old mom into technology, there were a lot of sacrifices made throughout but nothing could ever match the feeling of waking up in the middle of the night to see 300 plus users actively using my platform, even at that hour!
Now in due course of time, I’m working towards serving an ambitious target of twenty million women. Having faced all that I have, I truly believe every woman deserves to know the facts surrounding her important bodily choices and I’d like to be the catalyst empowering them in their journey!”
