“It’s a rare occurrence for a state topper in biology to refuse a medical seat and pursue engineering, especially when he’s born into a family of doctors. But I was firm in my decision and I’m glad I was, for those four years in college really helped me discover life. Not to mention, It helped me pick up a multitude of skills, which aid me till date!
One of the biggest revelations happened when I won my first short film contest. The applause I got from a packed auditorium of three thousand made me realize how effectively I can convey stories. It gave me the impetus to take baby steps towards a bigger goal. One led to another and a few years later, I ended up winning a coveted competition judged by veteran filmmaker Mr Vetrimaaran himself!
I did have the opportunity to make a movie right then but wanted to hone my skills further. So I went on to study filmmaking before working on my directorial debut. Now, this entire ride might sound like a magical one, but trust me, there were definitely testing times in-between. What helped me sail through, however, was an incredible family who believed in me and of course, the most supportive friends one could ask for. During the initial days, everyone from my friend’s circle made sure to contribute a certain percentage of their monthly earnings towards my short films. All of them had their obligations to meet but still made sure to back my dream. The reason I stand tall today is due to their uncompromised belief in my talent!
Atlast, when my first film went on to achieve big numbers, as well as resonate deeply with the audience, I was over the moon! The firsts always hold a special place in our hearts, don’t they? I can’t wait to bring more heartfelt narratives to life, on celluloid.”
