“It feels like yesterday and it’s a year already. And it all makes sense looking back. Like any woman, I had dreams. When I got pregnant, I thought I was practically rested for a while, and my dreams can rest too. But it was then I found my passion, or the passion found me. I was searching in vain for good maternity clothes yet couldn’t find one. Instead of cribbing about it, I started stitching my own. The next thing I knew, I was stitching for all my mommy friends. By the time Abinu was born, Putchi was hence born too. We knew nothing about textiles/ manufacturing, but we were ready to learn. We researched tirelessly. I took care of the design and manufacturing; my husband stepped in to drive the business and marketing. We literally carried Abinu with us to all the shoots, and he was present physically all the time. Every time our body hit a limit, and we’d be tired, and all it took was his smile. He kept us going. Yes, there were uncertainties, but we kept going. We three grew together in this journey, and Putchi grew as a brand. That feeling of seeing sales happen, and the special feeling of seeing people wearing your dresses – we relished every little moment. We were not just making products. We were making people’s lives easier. That was our core motivation. We grew as a small yet understanding team that felt like family. We now have a proper office and our own unit. Looking back it all makes sense. From a maternity wear idea to a full line family wear clothing, everything happened because we believed in what we were doing, and we had each other’s back. On this trip, we’ve grown closer to each other as a family. This I feel is the biggest strength, anytime. This wouldn’t have been possible if not for the exceptional support of my husband, my kid and all our clientele. The journey has just begun but we are so excited to see what else is in store”
