“Birthdays are exciting and fun, no matter the age. And getting a surprise on your special day is always fantastic. While my family and friends usually pull off the perfect surprise and plan a great celebration every year, this year around, I wasn’t expecting much to happen, given the lockdown and the pandemic.

A birthday in a quarantine is something uneventful and dull is what most would believe. But the people in my life, family, friends, and colleagues, made sure it was anything but that. It was my son, who is 13 years now, who started the whole celebration by creating a WhatsApp group with a few of my friends and relatives.

My husband gave me three different gifts with sweet notes, and each of them signifying how much he loves me and how he values our time together. And the cake had beautiful images that denote the various roles that I play in life as a daughter, a friend, a wife, a mother, and so on. My colleagues had gone the extra mile by decorating the room, ordering two cakes, and asking me to take one home so that I could cut it and celebrate it with my family. It was indeed overwhelming to get eight cakes when I wasn’t even expecting one. And despite this pandemic and all the stress out there, I had a memorable moment. Something that I would cherish for the rest of my life.”
