“As a mother to three girls, the conversations in my house predominantly revolve around food. Even now, with two of them married, not much has changed. From serving food directly, the only shift has been to sharing recipes over to another continent. It is almost known that a ring early in the morning means my daughter is on the line, enquiring on the details to a loved recipe.
Some homemakers consider the cooking routine rather boring, but not me. I love making these dishes and serving my family to their heart’s content. And food somehow is not just a hunger repellent. It is more an emotion that connects the entire family, stirs meaningful conversations and sometimes even carries a tinge of nostalgia with it. There are still moments when I’m requested for a specific kind of rice I made earlier and it gets me really excited. What’s funny is that it’s not just within my family. Right from neighbours, to even customers who step into our house, remind me of what they were offered previously and request for a second go at it. Some even urge me to enrol into cooking shows and contests, but I’ve never had the inclination to. I simply enjoy feeding my loved ones and running the whole family.
With the lockdowns formerly enforced, though there overarching theme of gloom, it was a good time for home cooks like me to step up and fill in for the happiness, with our magical recipes. I’ve also gone out of my comfort zones in cooking, to bake cakes and custards over stovetops then. I was initially nervous about the outcome, but seeing my youngest one devour the desserts, reassured that my attempts proved successful. Having said that she has also convinced me successfully into starting an online platform to share my work.
Now with food being a major portion of my identity, it’s given me more than one would have expected. And I will continue to win people hearts, by satiating their tummies first.”
