Today’s Hom story
“25 years ago, my dad lost all use for his limbs. It was a heartbreaking moment for us as a family since the sole breadwinner of the family became so immobile. So when the onus fell on the second parent, my mother rose to the occasion and saved myself and all of my siblings. And to this date, I hold on to that faith in the grit and determination she bestowed upon me to trudge through the situations.
One of the most testing periods of my life was when my marriage fell through. I was a lovestruck young girl who was smitten with the boy next door and was happily given away in our marriage of dreams when eventually, I came to know that he was already married to someone else. He tricked me and married me for fun and when a baby boy entered the scene, he left us stranded to live with his first wife.
So I came back to my parent’s place and decided to get my life together. I started looking for jobs and eventually, started to travel to Chennai to work as a domestic help. I have a couple of houses now where I am a regular. On nights, upon returning home, I sell stickers and other stationary items to passers by. With a single minded goal to give back to my parents who gave me everything, I trudge through the days.
People often ask me how I travel from Kanchipuram everyday but when love is the precedent to any of your actions, there’s no question of giving up because, we have to be there for those we love and that alone, is enough to help me ace through all the challenges I face.”
