“We don’t hail from a business family so getting into a baking career was a scary venture. Yet, we pulled it off and it’s been 4 successful years running this with my sister. It all started when our mother used to bake cakes for us in a pressure cooker when we were kids. We grew up eating cooker cakes during vacations and having a mom who loved baking, there was always a steady flow of cakes, cookies, breads, buns and other baked goods.
Inspired, we decided to bake a cake as a surprise for her birthday. The cake came out okay but tasted delicious. So we started to experiment with baking and started baking for a cousin’s birthday party and slowly the word spread around. We were approached by friends and others to start selling cakes. Our first cake was sold to a friend’s aunt and there has been no looking back since then.
Our brand Cakeistry was born then, led by two sisters who were engineers by degree but bakers by profession now. We split all the work right from baking a cake to decorating it and it’s been quite fun working together! 4 years later, looking back on our journey, I would say that it has been quite eventful!
We are majorly self-taught bakers picking off tips and hacks from the internet and our mom. We started by baking simple cakes and plain frostings and then slowly moved on to fondant cakes, accents and wedding cakes. Our growth in this industry has been fairly simple and straightforward. We haven’t done any major promotions, popup events, PR packages up until now and the reach/followers we have received so far is purely for our work. People look at our page, like our work and message us. We strive to perfect the look of the cake and we always make sure to take in a limited number of orders so that we can give our due justice to each and every piece we make.
We had our own inhibitions about running a business successfully. But backed up by a wonderful mother, we built on the capital lent by her and picked up our learnings along the way. We had our own fears about financial stability but as we started putting in our efforts into our business staying afloat of all the current trends and market demands, we were able to create a solid foundation for ourselves.
Nowadays we find a lot of women entrepreneurs starting their own venture and it is so inspiring to watch them put their heart and soul into their work and create an individuality for themselves. The world is ready to appreciate good quality products, anyday!”
