“Art holds a very special place in my heart. To me, it means much more than what one can imagine!
I was a young entrepreneur with a successful business and a beautiful marriage. Pregnancy came my way early on and even though I was a workaholic, I wanted to dedicate a considerable amount of time to nurture my child throughout the initial years. So I went ahead and took a hiatus, eventually giving birth to a beautiful baby boy who became the center of my universe.
Usually, motherhood evokes an image of happiness and eternal joy amongst many, but not everyone realizes the sacrifices behind it. Despite sleep cycles, food patterns and their overall health going for a toss, new mothers are often looked down upon, as they don’t contribute materially to the family.
I started experiencing this as well, when snide remarks were made by some elderly members, about me whiling away time and enjoying an easy life. And despite my efforts to ignore, the comments did get to me. All my achievements till then seemed useless and there were multiple times I broke down.
Luckily, it was at this time that art helped me heal. I remember channelising my energy completely into it to distract myself from the unwanted chaos. Eventually, I saw my efforts pay off and today I am a happy, full-time artist. There are still moments when the tide goes low, but for the most part, I am in a much better headspace than before. Looking back I can confidently say that art has been my saving grace and has steered my life back in the right direction!”
