“I hail from the background of caterers. Suffice it to say, I had seen enough food wastage that it eventually made me want to do something about it. Initially, I started with distributing the remaining food to people outside the temples. It was a small number but I started to spend some portion of my income to buy food and distribute it to around 30 people every week. As my routine became more regular, I started posting about these on my facebook wall and also whatsapp status with a tag line urging people to come forward and contribute whatever amount they could. When the lockdown rolled in, I started to collect funds from different places and use it to donate to NGOs who were coordinating with old age homes for buying groceries and blankets. The word of my activities spread around and now I have a group of well wishers who support me now and then whenever I post on requirements. My motto was that if I worked for five days, I would lend one day of the weekend for volunteering. But of late, I am going to distribute food almost everyday. I’m of the opinion that once you see a hungry person gobble up food, you will never let another man go to bed hungry. I feel that each day, all of us can make some extra food and distribute it to others. It is a small effort but it can make a huge impact in that person’s life. Each one feed one and together, let’s work towards abolishing hunger.”
