“Born in Kashmir to a middle-class household, I saw my family shift to the cosmopolitans when I was just seven. The dream of a building a better future pulled us in, though we weren’t ever high-flying in any sense. Years passed, and the confusion translated even into my choice of career. I took up a nine to five eventually but realized soon enough that I’m more inclined towards entrepreneurship.
With that, it felt like I was back to square one, until one day, I gave a try at baking, out of sheer curiosity. Homebaking, being a prevalent fad, had me completely hooked. But it wasn’t as easy as it seemed. Tons of ingredients saw its way to the trash before my first cake stood upright. It also took three years for my business to slowly pick up, with people preferring my fresh homemade pastries to store-bought ones. Yet this time, despite the positive assurance, logistics became another issue. Whether it was carrying 25 kgs of material every time, in crowded buses or ensuring a minimum cash inflow to keep my venture going, I had to do it all single-handedly.
Even to invest in my own skills, I had to save up bit by bit. But this is not to state that I had it hard. In fact, I’m thankful for all the bumps, for they instilled in me this fierce work ethic. And the reward for all my hustle showed up, in my father’s decision to give me a 1 BHK space, risking his passive income source, just so that I can switch over from the tiny kitchen that I was operating from, for years.
Now, another boon that peeked at me was Masterchef India, season 6. I was in the show for just 15 days, but the learning was definitely worth a lifetime. The show completely transformed my mindset about food, even propelling me towards a vegan lifestyle.
And since then, the transformation has been unbelievable, both professionally and personally! Today, I educate people, propelling them towards healthier choices, while catering to cake orders too in innovative ways. The healing power of food is immense, and I’ve taken it upon me to spread the knowledge!”
