“As a kid who travelled far and wide across the length and breadth of India, I have had my fair exposure to different cultures and lifestyles. Though I can’t relate to people who complain about some cities, I think each city is beautiful in its own unique way with its quirks and fancies. And this philosophy of seeing the best in life has come to serve me so well and it’s something I wish to take forward to the next generation as well.
As a corporate person in a leading position as a finance professional, I moved cities and resigned from a job I loved to nurse my daughter. As the monotony of the days grew up on me, I turned to the trusted old internet, picked my old love for sewing and embroidery and started making a business for myself.
As the years followed, my skills, as well as my customer base, improved and upon successfully completed my 8th year of running an independent brand, I collaborated with a good friend of mine to start selling handmade bags. Since most of the work involved fine intricate designs, the bags were an instant hit and today, we complete 2 years together running the ‘Subr’ studio. Roughly translating to super in a heavy Tamil slang, it has also come to define ourselves in our way!
But of course, it goes without saying that life did throw in a couple of surprises here and there. I was diagnosed with a tumour in my brain and after a strenuous 10-hour surgery, I came to know of complete hearing loss in my left ear. But I have learnt to ride with the storm and function completely well with a single ear.
And this lockdown has been a real game-changer in bringing out acting skills to the forte. What started as a harmless way to start enacting scenes in TikTok would eventually go ahead to garner the love and good wishes of so many users on social media.
We are at an age where anything and everything has become a cause for outrage on social media. At a precarious time like this, I think we should just let beliefs co-exist and make the most of the time and life that is given to us. Life is not meant to be taken so seriously. Each one of us is fighting different battles on our own so maybe, we should concede to live and let live. For, I have to come to understand that, if I can make even one person smile, then I am doing something right with my life!”
