“I was the fourth child in my family. All my siblings are married with children of their own and are settled abroad. I was working until a few years ago and retired quite recently. Now I spend my time taking care of my parents. It is fun to do nothing all day and relax after several decades of slogging to build a career.
I was born and raised in Mylapore and have a lot of memories with Chennai. I’m someone who makes friends with ease and gets along with people of all age groups. So most people are amused when they hear that I’m not married. While I brush away questions on my marriage saying nobody was willing to give me their daughter’s hand, the truth is that I wasn’t interested in dragging a woman into my world of troubles. My career was a roller-coaster ride and I didn’t settle until I was way past my prime years of marriage. I eventually got used to being single, focusing on my career, and spending time with my parents who live with me. It was in the year 2007 that I decided to retire from my business and spend more time with my parents.
That’s how I moved to my present home in 2010. I enjoy moving around Chennai and living in different parts of the city as it gives me the opportunity to meet and interact with new people. I have this habit of walking every evening and that’s how I made a few acquaintances. These were people who actually notice if I missed my walk for a day or show up late. These strangers turned friends when my nephew was visiting me from the US and one of the fellow walker asked if he was my son. That’s how we got talking and now meeting these people is what I look forward to all day.
My take away from life is simple. If you live every moment in celebration of your gifts every moment is a treasure.”
