“I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. From a young age, I imagined myself in a white coat, treating patients and making a difference. But as life unfolded, it took a different path. Though I got selected for dental school, my heart was set on MBBS. Still, my family had their views, suggesting me to pursue biotech engineering.
Before and during college, we faced financial struggles. In 2013, I turned my creativity into a small business, making and selling jewelry on Facebook. My final years in college were busy, balancing my studies with my growing jewelry business. I even got placed in a company in Coimbatore, and my family wanted me to take the job. My jewelry home business was working so well, but I was determined not to leave it even though I had joined a corporate company. E-commerce helped me run my business. But by then, e-commerce had sparked a fire in me. After 2 years, I quit my job and and took a leap into full-time entrepreneurship in 2015.
Those early days were tough, filled with uncertainty. I had no formal business training, just my passion and vision. My journey in e-commerce wasn’t quick or easy. In 2017, I married and moved from Chennai to a rural area in West Bengal. I know my e-commerce (product) business won’t last for a while. Still, I was strong enough in e-commerce. Starting from scratch, I began freelancing, helping small businesses rank in the competitive e-commerce space. I started educating other business owners on e-commerce and its benefits. My husband, though in a different field, became my anchor, keeping me grounded and supporting my journey. My family, too, eventually stood behind me.
Managing both a business and family life taught me that quick success doesn’t exist. Each step was about growth, both personal and professional. Working before starting a business gave me invaluable experience, and I never regretted it.
Motherhood added new challenges. Returning to work post-pregnancy was hard, especially after COVID struck. There were moments of exhaustion and self-doubt, but I learned that setbacks are just breaks. Each time I came back, I was stronger, more determined.
Today, I look back with gratitude. The life I lead now is something I could never have anticipated. From a girl with a dream to be a doctor to an entrepreneur building a life on her terms, I’ve learned that true success is in persistence. If there’s one thing I believe, it’s this: hits will come, but how you rise after each one defines your journey.”
